GDE admissions 2023: The GDE’s 2023 registration process for grade 1 and 8 enrolment in Gauteng public schools is the procedure through which parents seek admission for their children to these schools. It is the Gauteng Department of Education that deals with the admissions and clearances of students to public elementary schools in the province.

The Gauteng Department of Education is answerable for education and admissions issues in the province.

The department is responsible for providing primary education to all citizens. The department is dedicated to providing high-quality, modern institutions that enable quality teaching and learning, safeguarding and protecting the right of every student to quality, equitable, and relevant education.

Students in South Africa can attend any school in the country, provided there is a place available. You may send your child to the school of your choice, as long as there is a spot available.

Schools in Gauteng province have an admissions policy and an Annual Admission Notice, and priority is given based on those documents if places are in short supply. Online registration for the admission of students to Public Ordinary Schools (grade 1 and 8) is done through the GDE admissions portal in 2023.

The GDE Online Application for admission to Public Ordinary Schools is divided into two phases.

Phase 1: Only parents of Grade 7 students currently enrolled in a public school in Gauteng may apply for Grade 8.

Phase 2: This phase is open to applicants for Grade 1 and Grade 7 students outside the public school system in Gauteng and from other provinces. The application period will start on September 13, 2021, and end on October 8, 2021.

The GDE admission portal (www.gdeadmissions.gov.za) is open for registration for Grade 1 and Grade 8 admission to GDE. Parents should apply for Grade 1 and Grade 8 at Public Ordinary Schools through the GDE admission portal. The parents must first contact the primary school where their child is currently enrolled and give the school correct personal details and their child’s information. After accessing the Gauteng Department of Education’s Admissions Online System via SMS on their cell phones (www.gdeadmissions.gov.za), complete a five-step application to Grade 8.
